GTMC embraces and values diverse approaches to the practice of Zen Buddhism. Our commitment includes actively responding to community needs and soliciting feedback to continually enhance our practices. We actively support and motivate one another in both our spiritual pursuits and routine responsibilities.
Engagement: We are dedicated to maintaining a high level of engagement in all aspects of daily life—including interactions with family, friends, colleagues, and involvement within the broader community.
Equity and Inclusion: We welcome all individuals who wish to engage in Zen practice. Our organization is committed to eliminating barriers related to race, ethnicity, gender identity, religion, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, age, and ability. We believe that fostering both commonalities and diversity among participants enriches our community.
Our Community Guidelines
Giac Tam is a sanctuary for shared growth. We invite all practitioners to uphold these pillars of mindful conduct to maintain our common peace.
Presence
The Gift of Silence
Noble silence is observed during meditation sessions and in the main hall. Please silence all digital devices upon entry to preserve the collective stillness.
Compassion
Harmonious Conduct
We treat every guest with loving-kindness. Giac Tam is an inclusive space where differing paths are respected as manifestations of the same search for peace.
Vigilance
Help us maintain the sanctuary. Please place cushions and tea items back in their designated areas after use, participating in the Zen practice of care.
Mindful Stewardship
We have regular brief work practice period after each meditation session or a specific volunteering organized work practice event posted on the Calendar. The Work Leader assigns tasks, so little planning is needed—just join in, help out, and everyone is welcome, including children.

Cultivating Collective Presence Through Work Practice
We envision a community where every breath and every action is an act of mindfulness. At Giac Tam, we foster a shared sanctuary dedicated to the practice of stillness and the journey toward deep, collective awakening.
In Zen, work practice is central to spiritual life, encouraging mindfulness and awareness of our connection with all things. Everyday activities like mopping or returning a chair become meditative when approached with attention, softening our rough edges and enhancing our sense of aliveness. It is also a chance to support our community by caring for our shared space. Balancing meditative work and sitting practices helps integrate Zen into daily living and embodies the unity of giver, receiver, and gift.
Work practice Gatha:
May this work be done in a spirit of generosity,
Not driven by ego, greed, or delusion.
May kindness sustains us and prevail in conflict.
And compassion guide us and lead us to understanding.
May we rejoice in the successes of others.
And remain unmoved by praise or blame.
